Season Of Darkness #0 – Introduction

Since I began working in the cemetery, I’ve developed a habit of listening to audiobooks during my shifts. This led to what could in a more responsible person’s life be described as an addiction, and in my life has led to me re-engaging with the written word for the first time since I was a teenager (with the exception of reading for school, that is. As this year’s working season draws to an end, I have come to a decision – to get back into reading physical books like a sociopath.

This blog is going to be a collection of my experiences with all forms of media, and to kickstart it, my intention is to spend the off-season from December to April doing a lot of reading, and documenting my experiences, critiques and analyses of the books I read. Today is Halloween, and as of right now I have read approximately sixty percent of Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House, which arrived at my door this morning. My partner and I recently renewed our library cards, and Charles Dickens’ Bleak House is the first book I borrowed, and I plan on reading that after the Jackson. My genre of choice is horror, and I love science fiction and fantasy as well, but this series will not be strictly genre-limited.

Audiobooks are still my main way of consuming media, as I find it very convenient to listen to them while I’m working, and they have opened up a world I have felt I’ve missed out on for years now. This series of posts which I am going to call Season of Darkness will be dedicated to physical books I read this off season, with other posts outside of the series being dedicated primarily to media criticism of everything else I pay attention to, and of course, me being me, music. This series, however, I plan on making as polished as possible, and hope that you, humble reader, enjoy going on this ride with me.
